Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
